Shona

Shona

Donatus Shona is the new girl at the school having arrived here on Easter Sunday 2013. Shona was previously a ‘ride and drive’ cob. Before I bought her I was taken for a drive in that carriage pulled by Shona. She was beautifully behaved and responded perfectly to voice commands. I was still border line terrified – particularly when my friend handed me the reins. We were such a long way from her head…

Shona took to riding school work happily and made a good friend of Mia. She has perfected the slowest walk in the world. This can lull you into a false sense of security as she is also extremely fast and enthusiastic at times. There is no slow walk when Shona is out on a hack or jumping her favourite cross country fences.

Storm

Storm

Lynbrie Storm is a part-bred Welsh Cob. We don’t know what his other part is, except that his mother was called Shadow. Like Tippy, he was a millennium foal. He came to live here in 2009 via the New Forest sales. Storm is lots of fun and keeps us entertained with his inappropriate sense of humour.

He is a creature of habit and does not like his routine to be altered. He expects his breakfast at 7 am, followed by a lie down, after which he likes to be taken to the muck heap at 9.30 for a poo.

He has a huge fan club which includes riders and spectators.

The story of his life in this riding school is now on sale.

Storm’s Story – Buy the book

Storm arrived at the riding school, via the New Forest Sales, as a timid, nervous nine-year-old. He surprised us all with his athleticism and his inappropriate sense of humour. Storm still likes to entertain us whenever he can.

This short book is his true story, written for teenagers and adults, who, like me, have not outgrown their pony stage.

Storm’s Story is available to buy now from Amazon, from Waterstones and direct from Lucy at the riding school.

Tippy

Tippy

Tippy 2020 The Team Lucy Postgates Riding School Lewes Sussex image
Tippy is a posh horse, born in 2000. Her real name is Kir Royale. She began her life doing the AQHA showing circuit where she was reserve champion in a class for yearling mares.

Since arriving here in 2005 she has let us know, in no uncertain terms, that she does not like showing, does not want to be looked at, paraded, petted, or have anyone sharing her personal space. She just wants you to get on with your chores – feed, muck out, water, groom if you must, then GO AWAY.

Tippy has little patience with us humans. She is, however, the kindest, most doting mother to her own daughter, Scout.

Having said all that, Tippy does enjoy her work in the riding school. She likes being busy. Her enthusiasm and smooth Quarter Horse action make her a popular ride both in the school and out on the downs.

And yes, Tippy is very fast over quarter of a mile!

Scout

Scout

Scout AKA Tippy’s Shining Spark was born here in 2013. Her sire is Shiny Little Spark from the Roslyn Stud in Devon. She is named Scout after the feisty little girl in the book To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee.

Scout is brave, adventurous and wants to lead the way. She loves hacking and is interested in everything going on around her.

Mia

Mia

Houndean Mia is an unusually pretty Welsh Mountain pony. She changes colour subtly every season. At present she is a bay roan with a lot of grey. Mia was born here in 2001.

Mia is very good with children and teaches all the small beginner pupils. She is always enthusiastic about her work.

Mia also enjoys being groomed, plaited, loved, cuddled and pampered. Not too many treats, though, as she does have to watch her weight.
